United States President Donald Trump has announced that American negotiators will travel to Pakistan for a fresh round of talks with Iran, as efforts intensify to extend a fragile ceasefire and prevent further escalation in the Middle East conflict.

The planned negotiations, expected to take place in Islamabad, come amid ongoing tensions between Washington and Tehran, particularly over the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil transit route that has remained largely inaccessible due to the conflict.

According to the White House, the US delegation will be led by Vice President JD Vance, alongside senior envoys including Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. Preparations are already underway in Pakistan, with heightened security measures in place as mediators work to facilitate dialogue between the two sides.

Despite the renewed diplomatic push, Iran has not formally confirmed its participation. However, senior Iranian officials have indicated that diplomacy remains an option, even as significant differences persist over key issues such as nuclear enrichment, regional influence, and control of vital shipping routes.

The talks follow the collapse of earlier negotiations, which failed to produce a breakthrough after prolonged discussions. Both sides have continued to accuse each other of undermining ceasefire agreements, further complicating efforts to reach a lasting resolution.

Meanwhile, tensions in the Strait of Hormuz remain high, with Iran insisting that no vessels will pass through the waterway while a US-imposed blockade on Iranian shipping remains in force. The situation has disrupted global energy flows, as the strait typically handles a significant portion of the world’s oil trade.

President Trump has maintained a hardline stance, warning of severe consequences if Iran refuses to accept a proposed deal, including threats targeting key infrastructure. The remarks have drawn criticism and heightened fears of a broader regional conflict.

The outcome of the upcoming negotiations is expected to play a crucial role in determining whether the current ceasefire can be sustained or if the conflict will escalate further, with global economic and security implications hanging in the balance.
