Lebanon has called for a one-month extension of the fragile ceasefire with Israel as efforts intensify to halt ongoing destruction in southern parts of the country and prevent a return to full-scale conflict.
According to reports, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has instructed his delegation to push for an extension of the truce while engaging in diplomatic talks aimed at ensuring compliance and reducing violations. The move comes amid continued concerns over instability along the border and the humanitarian impact of the conflict.
Officials say the proposed extension is intended to create space for negotiations and reinforce commitments from all parties to respect the ceasefire terms. Lebanese authorities are also seeking guarantees that attacks and destruction of villages in the south will be halted, as many communities have already suffered significant damage.
