A tragic shooting at Lambton College has left one person dead and two others injured, in an incident authorities have described as a devastating act of violence that has shaken the campus community.

Police say the shooting occurred just before 1 a.m. on April 10 at the Lions Den campus pub during a student event, where officers responding to reports of gunfire discovered three individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.

One of the victims, identified as 20-year-old Dane Nisbet, a former junior hockey player, was rushed to hospital in critical condition but later died from his injuries. The two other victims were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators confirmed that all three individuals involved were known to each other, though details surrounding the circumstances leading up to the shooting have not been disclosed. Authorities have launched a homicide investigation and are currently interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence from the scene.

Police have indicated that no arrests have been made so far and that more than one suspect may be involved. They are urging anyone with information or video footage to come forward as efforts continue to identify those responsible.

Officials also sought to calm public concerns, stating there is no evidence the attack specifically targeted the college or the broader crowd attending the event, and no indication of any political motive behind the shooting.

In response to the tragedy, the college announced the closure of its Sarnia campus for the day and confirmed that counselling and wellness support services would be made available to students and staff affected by the incident.

In a statement, Lambton College described the killing as a “profound tragedy,” extending condolences to the victim’s family, friends, and the wider campus community grappling with the aftermath of the violence.

The incident has renewed concerns about safety at public gatherings and educational institutions, as authorities continue their investigation into what remains an active and evolving case.
