Trump Claims U.S. Airstrikes Destroy Iranian Military Targets on Strategic Kharg Island

United States President Donald Trump has announced that American forces carried out powerful airstrikes on Iran’s Kharg Island, claiming that multiple Iranian military targets were destroyed in what he described as a major escalation in the ongoing conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran.

In a statement shared on social media, Trump said U.S. forces had “totally obliterated” military installations on the island during what he called one of the most powerful bombing operations in the region. However, he said the strikes deliberately avoided Iran’s critical oil infrastructure for the time being.

Kharg Island is a highly strategic location in the Persian Gulf and is widely considered the heart of Iran’s oil export system, handling roughly 90 percent of the country’s crude oil shipments to global markets.

According to reports, the U.S. operation targeted military installations, naval facilities, and defense infrastructure, including bases and operational sites linked to Iran’s armed forces. Officials said the objective was to weaken Iran’s military capabilities without triggering a major global oil supply disruption.

Trump also issued a warning that the United States could expand its attacks if Iran interferes with international shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime route used for transporting a significant share of the world’s oil.

“If Iran or anyone else interferes with safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, we will reconsider our decision to spare the oil infrastructure,” Trump said.

The strike marks a dramatic escalation in the broader regional conflict that has intensified in recent weeks. The United States and Israel have launched multiple attacks on Iranian military facilities as part of a campaign aimed at curbing Tehran’s military influence and alleged nuclear ambitions.

Iranian authorities have disputed some of Trump’s claims, saying the attack caused limited damage and did not affect oil facilities on Kharg Island. Iranian officials also warned that any future attacks on their energy infrastructure could trigger retaliation against U.S.-linked oil and energy assets across the region.

Security analysts warn that the targeting of Kharg Island — even if limited to military facilities — represents a dangerous turning point in the conflict, given the island’s critical role in global oil markets and Iran’s economy.

The strikes come amid growing fears that the widening confrontation between the United States, Israel, and Iran could destabilize the entire Middle East and push global energy prices higher as tensions continue to rise.
