French security forces have successfully foiled a suspected terrorist bomb attack targeting a United States-linked financial institution in central Paris, arresting multiple suspects in what authorities describe as a potentially deadly plot.
According to officials, the attempted attack occurred in the early hours of Saturday outside a Bank of America building in Paris’ 8th arrondissement, where police officers on patrol noticed suspicious activity involving individuals carrying a bag containing an improvised explosive device.
Authorities confirmed that one suspect, reportedly a minor, was arrested at the scene while allegedly attempting to ignite the device using a lighter. A second individual fled immediately after the police intervention, triggering a wider manhunt and subsequent arrests of additional suspects linked to the plot.
Investigators revealed that the device consisted of a container filled with flammable liquid and explosive materials, which, although described as crude, had the potential to cause serious damage and casualties if detonated.
France’s National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office has launched a full investigation into the incident, with charges including attempted destruction using explosives, possession of incendiary materials, and participation in a terrorist criminal network.
Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez praised the swift response of law enforcement, stating that the rapid intervention “thwarted a violent terrorist act,” while emphasizing that national security vigilance remains at a heightened level amid ongoing global tensions.
Authorities are also examining possible international links to the attempted attack, including suspicions that the suspects may have been acting as intermediaries or proxies, a pattern increasingly observed in recent incidents across Europe targeting Western-linked sites.
