Ukraine has accused Russia of launching one of the largest overnight aerial assaults of the war, deploying about 430 drones and dozens of missiles in coordinated strikes across several regions of the country, leaving at least four people dead and many others injured.

Ukrainian authorities said the massive attack struck Kyiv and multiple other regions, including Sumy, Kharkiv, Dnipro, and Mykolaiv, damaging homes, businesses, schools, and critical infrastructure. The barrage triggered air raid alerts across the country as emergency crews rushed to extinguish fires and rescue residents trapped under debris.

According to Ukrainian officials, at least four civilians were killed and about 15 others injured in the Kyiv region alone after drones and missiles hit residential neighborhoods overnight. Several of the injured were reported to be in critical condition.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the main targets appeared to be energy facilities and key infrastructure, though residential areas were also struck during the attack. Fires and power outages were reported in several districts as emergency workers battled the aftermath of the bombardment.

Despite the scale of the assault, Ukraine’s air defense systems managed to intercept most of the incoming weapons. Ukrainian officials said hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles were neutralized before reaching their targets, preventing what could have been far greater destruction.

The attack comes amid growing geopolitical tensions worldwide, with global attention heavily focused on escalating conflicts in the Middle East. Ukrainian officials have warned that Russia could attempt to exploit global distractions to intensify its offensive in the ongoing war.

Meanwhile, the massive strike prompted Poland, a NATO member bordering Ukraine, to scramble fighter jets as a precaution to protect its airspace, though no violations were reported.

The overnight bombardment highlights the continuing intensity of the Russia-Ukraine war, now entering its fourth year, with both sides relying heavily on drones and missile systems in increasingly complex aerial battles. Analysts say such large-scale attacks are aimed at weakening Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and exhausting its air defense systems as the conflict drags on.

As rescue operations continue and damage assessments unfold, Ukrainian leaders are again urging Western allies to increase military assistance and air-defense support to help protect cities from future large-scale attacks.
