Communities in Plateau State, North-Central Nigeria, have raised urgent alarm over alleged plans for fresh attacks by armed groups, warning authorities to take immediate action to prevent what they described as a looming tragedy ahead of the Easter period.

According to local sources, residents in several vulnerable areas have reported increased movements of suspected armed attackers around their communities, heightening fears of coordinated violence similar to previous deadly incidents in the state.

Community leaders expressed deep concern over what they believe to be credible intelligence indicating that attacks could occur during the Easter celebrations, a period that has historically witnessed heightened violence in parts of Plateau State. They warned that failure to act swiftly could result in another round of bloodshed.

Residents have strongly rejected the possibility of experiencing what they termed “another Easter of blood,” calling on both state and federal governments to deploy adequate security personnel to at-risk communities and take proactive measures to avert potential attacks.

The warning comes amid a backdrop of recurring violence in Plateau State, where communities have repeatedly suffered attacks involving killings, kidnappings, and destruction of property. Recent incidents in the region have reinforced fears that armed groups continue to operate with relative freedom.

Local stakeholders emphasized that early warning signs must not be ignored, urging security agencies to intensify surveillance, intelligence gathering, and rapid response strategies to protect lives and property. They also called for improved collaboration between local vigilantes and formal security forces.

Security experts note that Plateau State remains one of Nigeria’s most volatile regions, with longstanding communal tensions, banditry, and militia activities contributing to cycles of violence. The latest alert underscores the urgent need for preventive action rather than reactive responses.

As Easter approaches, residents remain on edge, hoping that authorities will act decisively to prevent further loss of life. The situation highlights ongoing security challenges in Nigeria and the continued vulnerability of rural communities to armed attacks.
