IN NIGERIA: DSS ALERTS KWARA POLICE COMMISSIONER OF IMMINENT ATTACK BY SUSPECTED MAMUDA TERRORISTS

Nigeria’s Department of State Services (DSS) has issued a security alert to the Kwara State Police Commissioner, warning of an imminent attack by suspected militants affiliated with the Mamuda terror network, sources close to the intelligence community told Dalena Reporters on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.

According to the intelligence notification, operatives monitoring security threats detected unusual movement and communication patterns among individuals believed to be associated with the Mamuda group, a violent criminal organisation that has been linked to past attacks in parts of northern and central Nigeria. The DSS alert reportedly cautioned that the suspected terrorists could launch coordinated assaults targeting strategic locations in Kwara State, including highways, border communities and soft targets.

The notice, delivered directly to the command leadership of the Nigeria Police Force in Kwara, urged enhanced vigilance, increased patrols along major access routes, and close collaboration with military and other security agencies operating in the state.

A senior state police source, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of ongoing security operations, confirmed receipt of the DSS advisory and said that enhanced security measures were being implemented in response. “We have deployed additional patrol teams, heightened checkpoints and are working with local authorities to ensure the safety of residents,” the officer told reporters.

The reported alert comes amid a broader climate of insecurity in parts of Nigeria’s Middle Belt and North, where armed groups including bandits, insurgents and other criminal networks have carried out kidnappings, raids and attacks on civilians and security forces in recent months. Security analysts say that information sharing between intelligence and law enforcement agencies is critical in anticipating and preventing potential assaults.

Officials from the DSS and the Nigeria Police Force have not publicly released formal statements on the content of the alert or the suspected group’s intentions. However, community leaders in parts of Kwara State said they are on edge following unofficial reports of the advisory, and urged security agencies to maintain visible protection and timely communication with local residents.

As authorities continue to monitor the situation, the government’s proactive alerts underscore the challenges facing security forces working to deter violent attacks and reassure communities vulnerable to militant activity. Observers note that early warnings and coordinated responses are central to preventing loss of life and disruption if such threats materialise.
