In Nigeria: Boko Haram Releases Video Parading Dozens of Abducted Kwara Residents, Claims Government Propaganda

A disturbing video allegedly released by suspected Boko Haram militants shows more than **100 civilians — including women and children being paraded as abducted victims in a forested area of Kwara State, raising alarm over the scale of insecurity in the North-Central region and prompting fierce debate over official government accounts of recent attacks.

The footage circulating on social media depicts scores of captives standing in rows many visibly distressed as one of the armed men questions them about where they were taken. Several of those shown responded that they were abducted from **Woro community in **Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, an area that was previously hit by a deadly raid earlier this month.

In the video, the insurgents also accuse the Kwara State Government led by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of attempting to downplay the true number of abducted residents. The militant speaker claims official figures significantly underestimate how many people were seized, asserting that more than 100 are currently in their custody far above earlier reported totals.

The published footage follows an attack on Woro and neighbouring areas in early February, during which armed extremists killed dozens of villagers, burned homes and shops, and abducted residents an incident President Bola Tinubu attributed to Boko Haram as part of a broader insurgency affecting multiple regions.

The video has reignited public outcry and raised concerns over civilian safety, with family members and rights advocates calling on security forces for urgent action to secure the release of the captives and reaffirm government commitment to protecting vulnerable communities. As of this writing, neither state authorities nor national security agencies have issued a detailed response to the claims made by the insurgents in the footage.

This incident illustrates continuing challenges in combating terrorist networks and protecting civilians in parts of Nigeria that have experienced spill-over violence from longstanding insurgencies, highlighting persistent grievances over government transparency and effectiveness in addressing security threats.
