At least six passengers, including the driver, were abducted in a brazen attack on a mini bus along the Nsukka–Adani Road in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area, Enugu State, security sources told Dalena Reporters. The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Friday, December 26, 2025, when unidentified gunmen intercepted a fully loaded bus registered to the Enugu State Transport Company (ENTRACO) near the Adani community, an area residents say is notorious for criminal activity and kidnappings.
According to local sources, the attackers blocked the road and forced the vehicle to stop before herding passengers into nearby bushland. Three other passengers managed to escape during the chaos, but six others — including the driver, identified as Ignatius Ewenike — were seized by the Fulani gunmen and taken into captivity.
A community leader, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the abductions and said that early-morning travel along the route especially before local vigilante patrols resume duty increases vulnerability to attacks. “That road is very dangerous, especially in the early hours of the day,” the source said, urging travellers to avoid the stretch until security can be consistently maintained.
As of the time of filing, the abductors had not yet contacted the families of the victims to demand ransom, and the Enugu State Police Command had not issued an official response. Residents and local leaders have called on security agencies to increase patrols and maintain a consistent presence on the highway to protect commuters and deter further kidnappings.
The attack adds to a string of kidnapping and violent crimes in parts of Enugu State, intensifying fears among locals and highlighting ongoing challenges around ensuring safety on major travel routes in the region.
