Nollywood actress Doris Ogala, a member of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, has issued a formal demand for ₦1 billion in damages from Lagos-based cleric Pastor Chris Okafor, founder of Grace Nation Liberation City, alleging breach of a promise to marry and significant personal, financial and reputational harm.
The demand, dated December 16, 2025, was conveyed in a letter from her lawyers at Synergy Law Partners and delivered to the pastor’s Ojodu Berger address, warning that legal action will be initiated if he fails to comply within 21 days.
According to the legal notice, Ogala alleges that she and Pastor Okafor were in a long-standing personal relationship that began in 2017, during a period when she was experiencing marital difficulties and sought his pastoral support. She claims Okafor made a “clear, consistent and unequivocal” promise to marry her — a promise she says was reinforced by conduct, including introductions to his family and public appearances together at family events.
Ogala’s lawyers state that she relied to her detriment on the promise, abandoning prospects of reconciliation in her troubled marriage and placing considerable trust in Okafor, including entrusting him with ₦45 million in a single financial transaction. They argue this reliance caused irreversible steps, and that the subsequent public engagement and marriage of Okafor to another woman constituted a public repudiation of that promise.
The letter further alleges that the fallout has led to severe emotional distress, reputational injury and public harassment against Ogala, a public figure, including online scrutiny and victim-shaming. Her legal team also accuses the cleric of unauthorised circulation of her private photographs without consent, which they say aggravated the harm she suffered.
Ogala’s legal counsel is seeking ₦1 billion in general and aggravated damages, citing the emotional trauma, reputational damage and the public nature of the breach. The letter gives Pastor Okafor 21 days to meet the demands, warning that failure to do so will result in the commencement of court proceedings before a competent jurisdiction.
The controversy has sparked widespread public interest. Photos and reports circulating online indicate Pastor Chris Okafor married another woman in Lekki, Lagos, drawing mixed reactions from social media users. Ogala has publicly reiterated her claims in interviews and online posts, describing the emotional and psychological toll the situation has taken on her and insisting that she is entitled to legal redress.
As of press time, Pastor Chris Okafor has not issued an official response to the demand or the allegations contained in the legal notice.
