In a chilling turn of events from Katsina State, the Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a newlywed woman suspected of fatally stabbing her husband just three days after their wedding. The gruesome incident took place in Jibia Local Government Area, sending shockwaves across the community.
According to a statement by the police, on November 23, 2025, at about 1:30 p.m., law enforcement received a distress call from the Jibia Division. They reported that a man — identified as Abubakar Abdulkarim (popularly known as “Dan Gaske”) — was discovered motionless in a pool of blood at his residence in Tashar Buja quarters. The victim bore a deep cut on his neck. He was rushed to a local hospital but, tragically, was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police swiftly detained one suspect — the deceased’s wife, identified as Zainab Muhammad. Investigators are currently probing the exact circumstances surrounding the killing.
Community sources say the couple had officially married just days earlier, on Thursday, November 18, 2025. Neighbours claimed that the wife allegedly attacked Abdulkarim while he slept. After the fatal stabbing, she reportedly left the house and went to a neighbour’s home seeking food — behaviour that raised suspicion among local women. Alarmed, they followed her back, and upon entering the residence, found the groom’s lifeless body. The group then alerted security operatives.
Relatives of the deceased have dismissed early rumours that the marriage was coerced. They insist that prior to the wedding, the union appeared consensual and peaceful.
In response, the Katsina State Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu, has vowed a thorough and diligent investigation. He also appealed to anyone with useful information to come forward and aid law enforcement efforts.
The tragic episode has left Jibia Local Government Area reeling, with many residents expressing shock and sorrow. A once-celebrated union has turned into a bitter tragedy, raising painful questions about what could have triggered such violence so soon after a wedding.
