President Bola Tinubu on Thursday reassured both international partners and Nigerians that his government is committed to defeating terrorism in the country. The assurance was delivered at the Presidential Villa in Abuja after the swearing-in of two new ministers, amid rising diplomatic pressure and security challenges.

Addressing the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, Tinubu said:

“Despite the political headwind and the fear of our people, we will continue to engage with our partners. … The task ahead is immense. … We assure all of you that we will defeat terrorism in the country.

The new ministers sworn-in were Dr. Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh, SAN (from Enugu State) and Dr. Bernard Mohammed Doro (from Plateau State). Their appointments came after the FEC approved nominations to replace two former ministers.

Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, in his briefing to the council noted that Nigeria’s economy grew by 4.23 percent in the second quarter of 2025 — the highest quarterly figure in a decade outside the post-COVID era. Tinubu referenced this, stating it signals investor confidence, even as security remains a top government focus.

Tinubu said the government’s approach combines diplomatic engagement, economic reforms under his “Renewed Hope Agenda”, and security operations. He emphasised that Nigeria will continue to partner with global allies while safeguarding its sovereignty and advancing its internal security agenda. He described terrorism, insurgency and banditry as threats requiring coordinated national effort.
