Abuja, Nigeria — November 1, 2025 | Dalena Reporters The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended four senior officials including its National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, and National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN) — for one month, the party disclosed Saturday following an emergency meeting of its National Working Committee (NWC) at Legacy House, Maitama, Abuja.
According to the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the suspensions also include Deputy Legal Adviser Okechukwu Osuoha and National Organising Secretary Umaru Bature. They were referred to the party’s Disciplinary Committee pending further action.
The decision comes in the wake of a Federal High Court order halting the PDP’s planned national convention scheduled for November 15–16 in Ibadan, Oyo State. The court ruled that the party did not fulfil constitutional and regulatory conditions ahead of the convention.
The PDP, however, described the court’s judgment as “an assault on Nigeria’s democratic process,” and insisted its preparations for the convention would not be derailed.
In announcing the suspensions, the NWC said: “In line with the party’s constitution, the National Legal Adviser … we have suspended for one month and referred to the Disciplinary Committee.
The move adds fuel to the long-standing internal crisis within the party, characterised by recurring disputes over zoning, delegates, and power sharing — issues which have deepened since the PDP’s loss of federal power. Party insiders say the suspended officials are affiliated with one of the major factions, adding a sectarian element to the disciplinary action.
As of now, the PDP remains under pressure to stabilise its internal structures ahead of the 2027 general elections. The suspensions will likely affect delegate mobilisation, the convention timeline and the party’s broader strategic posture.
