A suspected social-media informant, identified only as “Evangelist Daniel,” has been taken into custody by Nigerian police in Nasarawa State after posting a video that purportedly showed an armed Islamic Jihadist terrorists men attack on a church crusade in Agboda village.
According to a post by a fellow clergyman on X, the man has been held for over 12 hours — a claim confirmed by his wife. The video, widely circulated on social media, shows people fleeing in panic as what was described as a sudden herdsmen or bandit intrusion disrupted the gathering.
The alleged attack comes amid mounting insecurity in the Mararaba-Udege area, where worshippers have reportedly been targeted at religious events in recent weeks. Local reports said an earlier crusade was disrupted when gunshots and threats circulated in the neighbourhood, forcing congregants to scatter.
When contacted, spokesmen for the Nasarawa State Police Command said they had no official record of the incident. They refuted claims that they had received any complaint or report — urging the person behind the video, or anyone with relevant information, to come forward so the matter could be properly investigated.
The detention has triggered fresh concerns about freedom of expression, public-interest reporting, and whether ordinary citizens can document or publicize insecurity without fear of reprisal. Human rights observers warn that suppressing such voices could deepen the culture of silence and impede accountability.
Dalena Reporters will continue to follow the case and seek further details from the police command, community leaders, and independent sources.
