Nicki Minaj Hails Trump for Designating Nigeria “Country of Particular Concern”

Rapper and cultural icon Nicki Minaj has publicly expressed her support for former U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to designate Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” (CPC) over alleged widespread violence and persecution of Christian communities. The star took to social media to voice her gratitude, underscoring the importance of religious freedom and global solidarity.

In a post on the X platform, Minaj wrote:

“Reading this made me feel a deep sense of gratitude. We live in a country where we can freely worship God. No group should ever be persecuted for practicing their religion. We don’t have to share the same beliefs in order for us to respect each other.

She added:

“Numerous countries all around the world are being affected by this horror […] Thank you to the President & his team for taking this seriously. God bless every persecuted Christian. Let’s remember to lift them up in prayer.

The designation of Nigeria as a CPC was announced by Trump on October 31, 2025, citing reports of mass killings, forced displacement and religious targeting of Christians in multiple regions of the country. Under U.S. law — the International Religious Freedom Act — a CPC classification signals that a country has engaged in “systematic, ongoing, and egregious violations of religious freedom.

Minaj’s expression of support has sparked significant discussion online. Some fans praised her for raising attention on religious freedom and global Christian persecution. Others criticised her political alignment and involvement in high-stakes international policy debates. But for many observers, her comments highlight the growing intersection of celebrity, global religion and geopolitics.

Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation, has for years faced escalating violence linked to armed groups, communal conflict and reports of ethno-religious targeting. The CPC designation and Minaj’s public stance combine to deepen international focus on Nigeria’s security and religious-freedom environment.
