Bola Tinubu Set to Visit U.S. Tuesday, Expected to Meet J.D. Vance

Abuja / Washington, D.C. — November 2, 2025 | Dalena Reporters

President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to travel to the United States on Tuesday for high-level diplomatic engagements amid rising tensions over religious-freedom concerns in Nigeria.
Sources close to the Nigerian presidency told Dalena Reporters that U.S. President Donald Trump has delegated his Vice President, J.D. Vance, to meet with Tinubu during the visit.

Nigerian presidential media aide Daniel Bwala stated the visit would focus on counter-terrorism cooperation and global security “shared interests” between both countries. “Both President @officialABAT and President @realDonaldTrump have shared interest in the fight against insurgency and all forms of terrorism against humanity,” the statement read.

The timing of the visit is significant. It comes as the U.S. has accused Nigeria of failing to adequately protect its Christian communities, designating the country a “Country of Particular Concern” (CPC) over alleged religious-violence risks. Nigerian authorities had rejected claims of genocide or solely faith-based targeting, insisting the security challenges are multi-faced and affect all Nigerians.

The Nigerian presidency emphasised that the meeting would also aim to clarify differences around the nature of terrorist targets in Nigeria — whether attacks are based on religion, ethnicity, or criminality — and to deepen bilateral cooperation.
As preparations advance, all eyes will be on how the U.S. and Nigeria frame the objectives of the visit: whether it will signal a recalibration of diplomacy or a stepping-up of pressure around human-rights and security policy.
