Abuja — The leadership of the House of Representatives, including Speaker Abbas Tajudeen and Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, has strongly condemned the recent attack on the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku, Kwara State, calling for urgent action to bring the perpetrators to justice.
In separate statements released on Wednesday, both lawmakers described the incident as “unacceptable” and “painful,” emphasizing the need for a swift and thorough investigation. Speaker Abbas, through his media aide Musa Abdullahi Krishi, expressed deep concern about the rising pattern of attacks on soft targets, such as places of worship.
Abbas also reassured Nigerians that the National Assembly remains committed to citizens’ safety, and praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for suspending his planned foreign trip to focus on the escalating security crisis. He prayed for the safe return of those abducted during the massacre and for comfort for grieving families.
Deputy Speaker Kalu offered a heartfelt response, extending his condolences to the victims, survivors and their families. He called on security agencies to act with speed, urging them to arrest those responsible and rescue the kidnapped worshippers.
The attack, which occurred during a live-streamed church service, left at least three worshippers dead and several others abducted, prompting widespread outrage and renewed debate over Nigeria’s ability to protect its most vulnerable citizens.
Kalu also called for a detailed investigation into how such a violent incident could unfold in a place of worship, stressing that those behind it must face the full weight of the law.
As tensions rise, youth protesters reportedly blocked the Ilorin–Kabba road in Kwara, demanding more robust security and accountability following what they called “yet another failure to protect Nigerians.”
