Brussels to speed up construction of 'drone wall' following weather balloon incidents in Lithuania

European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced their intention to increase pressure on Belarus and accelerate the "drone wall" project in connection with the increasing number of cases of contraband entering Lithuania through airspace.

Ms. von der Leyen, on social media, called the weather balloon attacks a "hybrid threat" and vowed that Europe would not tolerate such behavior, viewing it as further evidence in favor of creating a "drone wall." "This is destabilization. This is a provocation. The European Commission will call this by its name: a hybrid threat. The European Commission will not tolerate this," the EC chief wrote.

Mr. Costa also expressed solidarity with Lithuania and announced continued pressure on Belarus.

Lithuania claims that smugglers from Belarus are using helium balloons to transport cigarettes. Vilnius Airport has suspended operations several times in recent weeks due to this.
