In Kenya: Uhuru Kenyatta Criticizes William Ruto in Escalating Political Tensions

Former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has openly criticized President William Ruto, signaling renewed political tensions between the two leaders nearly two years after Ruto’s election. The critique, described as “Season 2” of their ongoing political saga, comes amid discussions on the reconstitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and broader governance challenges.

Uhuru’s public statements reflect concerns about unilateral decision-making and the marginalization of key voices, while Ruto has emphasized reforms in public service, anti-corruption, and economic recovery.

Analysts say the confrontation could influence political alliances ahead of the 2027 general election and underscores the fragile balance of power in Kenya’s political landscape.

Both leaders have limited their public comments to official statements, leaving observers to consider the implications for policy and party cohesion.
