Nigeria Extradites Chinese Gang Leader Dai Qisheng in Joint INTERPOL Operation

Nigeria has extradited Dai Qisheng, a notorious Chinese gang leader wanted for multiple violent crimes, to Chinese authorities in a high-profile operation carried out in collaboration with INTERPOL. The extradition, finalized over the weekend, marks a significant milestone in international law enforcement cooperation and underscores Nigeria’s commitment to combating transnational crime.

According to officials, Dai Qisheng, who had been on INTERPOL’s most-wanted list for years, was apprehended during a covert operation led by Nigeria’s Department of State Services (DSS) in coordination with Chinese security agencies. Investigators report that Dai had been operating under an alias in Nigeria, allegedly using the country as a hub for coordinating illicit financial activities and arms deals that supported organized crime networks across Asia and Africa.

Law enforcement sources revealed that Dai’s syndicate had been linked to human trafficking, illegal arms trade, and large-scale fraud schemes spanning multiple countries. His arrest was described as “swift and precise,” following months of intelligence sharing between Nigerian, Chinese, and INTERPOL officials.

A senior DSS officer, speaking to reporters, stated, “This operation demonstrates Nigeria’s unwavering stance against criminals who think they can exploit our borders for illegal activities. International cooperation was key, and this case sets a precedent for future collaborative efforts against transnational crime.”

Upon his arrival in Beijing, Dai Qisheng was immediately taken into custody by Chinese authorities. He is expected to face multiple charges, including organized crime, illegal weapons possession, and financial crimes, with a trial scheduled in the coming weeks.

Analysts say the successful extradition reflects a growing trend of cross-border collaboration in law enforcement. With criminal networks increasingly operating across multiple jurisdictions, countries are now relying more on intelligence sharing, joint investigations, and coordinated arrests to disrupt syndicates that pose global security threats.

The Nigerian government has praised the joint operation, emphasizing that the country will continue to strengthen ties with international security agencies. Officials added that such partnerships are crucial not only for dismantling criminal networks but also for enhancing domestic security and fostering global trust.

For many observers, the Dai Qisheng case sends a strong message: Nigeria is no longer a safe haven for international fugitives. Security experts have also noted that the move enhances the country’s reputation as a proactive partner in global crime prevention efforts.

With Dai now facing justice in China, authorities in both nations are hopeful that this milestone will pave the way for even deeper cooperation in tackling organized crime, human trafficking, and financial fraud in the years ahead.
