BRAMPTON, Ontario — Peel Regional Police are searching for a 35-year-old Brampton man wanted for attempted murder following a stabbing that left a victim with serious injuries earlier this week.
Police identified the suspect as Vimal Mohan, who is accused in connection with the incident reported on Wednesday, October 7, at approximately 2 p.m. Investigators said officers responded to a stabbing in Brampton before the victim was transported to a local hospital and subsequently transferred to a trauma centre for further treatment.
Authorities have issued a warrant for Mohan’s arrest in connection with the investigation. He faces one charge of attempted murder, according to police.
The circumstances surrounding the stabbing, including what led to the incident and the relationship between the suspect and the victim, have not been fully disclosed publicly.
The investigation is being handled by Peel Regional Police’s Intimate Partner Violence Unit, suggesting that investigators are examining the incident within the context of their mandate to investigate violence involving intimate partners. Police have not publicly provided further details about the events leading up to the stabbing.
Police Release Suspect’s Description
Investigators have released a physical description of Mohan as they seek assistance from the public in locating him.
Police describe him as approximately five feet seven inches tall and weighing about 145 pounds. He has long black hair, an unkempt beard and moustache, brown eyes and a light complexion. He also has a star tattoo on his neck.
Authorities are urging Mohan to obtain legal counsel and surrender to police.
The release of his photograph and physical description is intended to help investigators establish his whereabouts and advance the investigation.
Police have not announced an arrest as of the October 11 notice.
Public Asked to Help With Investigation
Peel Regional Police are appealing to anyone who may have information about the stabbing or Mohan’s whereabouts to come forward.
Anyone with relevant information can contact the Intimate Partner Violence Unit at 905-453-2121, extension 4990.
Information may also be provided through the police service’s official reporting channels.
Investigators are asking members of the public not to approach the suspect themselves. Anyone who believes they have located him should contact police.
Investigation Continues
The case remains under investigation as authorities work to locate the suspect and establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
The victim’s injuries were described by police as serious, but further information about the victim’s condition has not been released.
An arrest warrant and criminal charge represent allegations, not a finding of guilt. Mohan is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
Police have not released additional details about the incident, and further information may become available as the investigation progresses.
