ABUJA, Nigeria — The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it will begin publishing the personal particulars of candidates nominated for the 2027 presidential, Senate, and House of Representatives elections on Saturday, August 1, in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026.
INEC said the documents, contained in Form EC9, will be displayed for public inspection at all INEC state offices and constituency offices nationwide. The publication is intended to give Nigerians the opportunity to examine the information submitted by candidates seeking elective office ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Friday, Mohammed Haruna, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, said the exercise is part of the commission's officially approved timetable for the elections.
"The publication of the personal particulars of the presidential and National Assembly candidates tomorrow is item five. Those for governorship and State Assembly candidates will be published on August 29," Haruna said.
Haruna explained that the exercise complies with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2026, which requires INEC to publish candidates' personal particulars within 21 days of receiving them from political parties.
The documents contained in Form EC9 include candidates' full names, gender, residential addresses, educational qualifications, employment history, sworn affidavits, and other supporting documents submitted during the nomination process. The publication allows members of the public to scrutinize the information and, where necessary, raise legal objections through the appropriate channels.
INEC Chairman's Chief Press Secretary, Adedayo Oketola, also confirmed that the publication is a statutory requirement and forms part of the revised timetable for the 2027 general election.
"Form EC9 contains the candidates' affidavits, credentials and other personal particulars that were submitted. The documents will be displayed in all INEC state offices and offices in the constituencies," Oketola said.
The electoral commission, however, emphasized that the publication of the documents does not represent the final list of candidates. According to INEC, political parties still have until August 22, 2026, to withdraw or substitute nominated candidates where permitted under the Electoral Act.
INEC stated that the final list of candidates for the presidential and National Assembly elections will be released on September 12, 2026, while the personal particulars of governorship and State House of Assembly candidates will be published on August 29, 2026.
The commission reiterated that the publication process is designed to promote transparency, accountability, and public participation in Nigeria's electoral process by allowing citizens to verify the credentials and declarations of candidates before the elections.
