A man has died following a shooting in Brampton, prompting Peel Regional Police to launch a search for two male suspects who fled the scene on foot.

Police said the shooting happened shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Sunday in the area of Earlsbridge Boulevard and Edenbrook Hill Drive. Emergency crews responded to reports of gunfire and found a man suffering from gunshot wounds.

The victim was rushed to hospital in life-threatening condition but was later pronounced dead, according to investigators.

Peel Regional Police said preliminary information suggests there was an altercation between the parties before the shooting. Duty Inspector Andrew Harris said investigators do not yet know whether the victim and the suspects were known to each other.

Authorities said two male suspects dressed in black were seen fleeing the area on foot shortly after the shooting. No further suspect descriptions were immediately released.

Investigators remained at the scene Sunday as officers worked to gather evidence and determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal attack.

The homicide adds to a growing number of violent incidents in the Greater Toronto Area and is expected to intensify calls for information from witnesses who may have been in the neighbourhood at the time of the shooting.

Police have not yet released the identity of the victim, and no arrests had been announced as of the latest update. The investigation remains ongoing.
