BRAMPTON, Ontario — One person has died and five others have been hospitalized with serious injuries following a devastating multi-vehicle collision in Brampton late Friday night, Peel Regional Police confirmed.
Emergency crews responded to the crash at the intersection of McVean Drive and Countryside Road at approximately 10:45 p.m. on Saturday, after receiving reports of a serious collision involving multiple vehicles.
Upon arrival, first responders found extensive damage at the scene. One individual was pronounced dead, while five other occupants sustained critical injuries and were transported to nearby trauma centres for emergency treatment. Police said several of the victims were suffering from life-threatening injuries.
Firefighters and paramedics worked alongside police officers to rescue those trapped in the wreckage and secure the area. The intersection was closed for several hours as investigators examined the scene and gathered evidence.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased, pending notification of next of kin. The names and conditions of the injured have also not been made public.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation. Peel Regional Police have not indicated whether speed, impairment, mechanical failure, or other factors contributed to the crash.
Investigators are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have dashcam footage from the area around the time of the incident to contact Peel Regional Police. Officials believe such evidence could help determine the sequence of events leading up to the fatal crash.
The collision marks another tragic incident on Peel Region roads, where police continue to urge motorists to exercise caution, obey speed limits, avoid distractions, and never drive while impaired.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional information is expected to be released as investigators continue their work.
