Two Palestinians, including a teenage boy, have been killed following a violent attack by Israeli settlers near a school in the occupied West Bank, in an incident that has intensified tensions and drawn international attention.
According to multiple reports, the attack occurred in the village of Al-Mughayyir, located northeast of Ramallah, where armed settlers, reportedly accompanied by Israeli forces, opened fire in and around a school environment. Witnesses and local officials said the assault targeted civilians, including students, triggering panic as children and teachers attempted to flee the scene.
The Palestinian Red Crescent confirmed that two individuals were killed—a 14-year-old boy and a 32-year-old man—while at least four others sustained gunshot wounds during the incident.
Local authorities described the situation as chaotic, with residents rushing toward the school after hearing gunfire. Eyewitness accounts indicated that the attackers initially targeted the school area before continuing to fire at others who arrived to assist or investigate the disturbance.
In response, the Israeli military stated that troops were deployed to the area after reports of stone-throwing at a vehicle carrying civilians, including a reserve soldier. According to the military, the soldier exited the vehicle and opened fire at what were described as “suspects,” adding that the incident is currently under review.
The killings have further heightened concerns over increasing violence in the West Bank, where tensions have escalated amid ongoing regional conflicts and expanding settlements. Human rights observers have noted a surge in incidents involving settlers and Palestinian civilians, raising questions about accountability and protection for vulnerable communities.
This latest incident follows a pattern of violence in the occupied territories, where attacks involving settlers and clashes with Israeli forces have led to repeated casualties. Reports indicate that such incidents have become more frequent, contributing to growing instability and fear among residents.
The international community has continued to call for restraint and renewed dialogue, warning that ongoing violence could further destabilize the region and undermine efforts toward peace.
As investigations continue, the incident underscores the fragile security situation in the West Bank and the urgent need for measures to prevent further escalation and protect civilian lives.
