LONDON, Ontario, Canada — A routine trespassing investigation near Western University in London has developed into a major police probe, with four men arrested and charges related to explosives and firearms laid after hazardous chemicals and weapons-related items were found at a residence near Chesham Avenue.
The investigation began on the night of January 24 when members of the Western University Special Constable Service arrested a man seen trespassing on campus. London police officers, called to assist, found a loaded handgun at the initial scene, prompting a wider inquiry.
Police traced the incident to a nearby house in the Chesham Avenue/Chesham Place area, where investigators discovered hazardous chemicals capable of being used in explosives. Emergency response teams secured the property, and London police have maintained a visible presence while the case remains active.
Four adults — including three London residents and one man from Ottawa were arrested and face multiple charges. Allegations include unauthorised possession of firearms and explosives, as well as weapons-related offences. Police have said the investigation has expanded beyond the local scene, with search warrants executed in Ottawa and Gatineau, Quebec, with support from other law-enforcement agencies.
Officials emphasised that the suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty, and that the investigation is ongoing. While motives have not been publicly disclosed, authorities have said they are continuing to examine evidence and will provide updates as appropriate.
The case has drawn attention in the community, with local residents expressing concern over both the charges and the multi-day police activity in the area. London police have reiterated that public safety remains their priority and have asked residents to stay clear of the immediate investigation area as efforts continue.
