PDP Urges Federal Government to Prioritise Security and Citizens’ Welfare in 2026

ABUJA — As Nigerians begin 2026 amid persistent insecurity and economic hardship, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a firm appeal to the Federal Government to make the protection of lives, property and citizens’ welfare its foremost priority this year. The call was made in a New Year message released by the party on Thursday and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong.

In a statement conveying the party’s solidarity with Nigerians, the PDP highlighted that insecurity and economic strain have become daily realities for millions, significantly undermining public confidence in governance. The message emphasised that 2026 must be a turning point marked by decisive, people-centred leadership rather than another year of unfulfilled assurances.

Ememobong urged the Tinubu administration to recommit to its constitutional duty of protecting lives and property nationwide, noting that citizens have endured prolonged cycles of violence, kidnappings, banditry and economic distress. “This new year must not be another chapter of broken promises,” the PDP said, stressing that actions in 2026 should prioritise security, welfare and tangible improvements in living conditions.

The opposition party also called on democratic institutions including the judiciary, electoral bodies, and security agencies to uphold their responsibilities with independence and without undue influence, warning that Nigeria’s democracy cannot survive where justice is replaced by arbitrariness and impunity.

In reaffirming its solidarity with ordinary Nigerians, the PDP said public office holders must remember that governance is a trust bestowed by the people, not a licence to pursue partisan interests. It pledged to continue holding the government accountable until governance reflects the will, welfare and aspirations of the populace.

The party’s message comes as the nation grapples with rising public frustration over recurring insecurity and economic challenges, underlining broader political pressures on the federal government to deliver concrete relief and stability in the year ahead.
