The Kano State Police Command has arrested five Fulani suspected kidnappers and cattle rustlers during intelligence-led operations in Kiru and Tsanyawa Local Government Areas of the state.
The arrests, which took place on December 14, 2025, were carried out by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad and other tactical units following credible intelligence. Four suspects were arrested at Rahma Round in Kiru LGA after police operatives cordoned off the area.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, one of the suspects — 25-year-old Shafiu Ibrahim from Auchanawa Village in Ikara, Kaduna State — confessed to being a member of a kidnapping gang and participating in several cattle-rustling activities. Police recovered a TVS motorcycle from him, while the three other suspects arrested at the location are being investigated for various offences.
In a separate operation, a joint team comprising the Dragon Unit, Anti-Kidnapping Squad, and Tsanyawa Police Division arrested 24-year-old Bishir Umar from Karaduwa LGA of Katsina State at Mahuta Village in Tsanyawa LGA. Umar allegedly confessed he and his accomplices entered Kano State on two motorcycles with a rifle to commit crimes; he was arrested while on surveillance, while the other suspects escaped with the motorcycles and the weapon.
The command said the suspects will be charged to court after investigations. The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, appreciated the public for assisting with information and urged residents to continue reporting suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.
