Dalena Reporters l December 25, 2025 At least five people were killed while 35 others sustained injuries following an explosion at Al-Adum Juma’at Mosque within Gamboru Market in Maiduguri, Borno State, authorities confirmed. The Borno State Police Command said it received a report of an IED explosion during prayers on December 24, 2025, at about 1800hrs, and immediately cordoned off the affected area to ensure public safety and facilitate emergency operations.
Under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, a joint rescue and emergency response was activated with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and other security and emergency teams.
The injured victims were evacuated to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital and the State Specialist Hospital for medical treatment. Preliminary investigations suggest the incident may have been a suicide bombing, with fragments of a suspected suicide vest recovered and witness statements recorded, and investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause and circumstances.
The Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit is conducting thorough sweeps to rule out any secondary devices, and normalcy has since been restored, with the public advised to remain calm and avoid the affected area. Further updates will be communicated as investigations progress.
