Abuja, Nigeria — November 5, 2025 | Dalena Reporters
A public petition calling for a formal investigation into Senator Ned Nwoko’s alleged abuse of power has garnered 17,412 signatures as of Wednesday, according to the petition document sighted by Dalena Reporters. The move follows accusations of intimidation directed at his wife, actress Regina Daniels, and her family.
The petition accuses Nwoko, a lawmaker from Delta State, of “leveraging his official position and influence to obstruct legal rights and intimidate Regina Daniels and her family,” further claiming his conduct “poses a broader concern for justice and governance in the country.
According to the document, the opening paragraph states: “Nwoko's alleged misconduct is not only an affront to Regina Daniels and her family but also a potential threat to all Nigerians who believe in fairness, justice and the rule of law.
Background of the Allegations
The petition arises in the wake of social-media posts by Regina Daniels in which she alleges that her husband arranged the arrests of her elder brother and sister as leverage to compel her return to his residence and submit to a rehabilitation programme. Her posts stated:
“Someone please help me! I feel like I’m losing my mind. I never thought I would do this but my big brother and big sister have been arrested … my baby sister might be arrested soon as well until I return … and, according to him, return to rehab.
In a separate public statement, Senator Nwoko accused Daniels of drug and alcohol addiction, alleging she had engaged in erratic behaviour and needed rehabilitation either in Abuja or abroad.
The Petition’s Demands
The signed petition calls for:
-
A transparent investigation by the relevant Nigerian authorities into the allegations against Nwoko.
-
The observance of international human-rights standards given the purported intimidation of a public figure’s family.
-
Legal accountability, emphasising that no public figure, regardless of wealth or influence, should be above the law.
Political and Governance Implications
Supporters of the petition argue that the case symbolises the importance of rule-of-law and checks on political influence — particularly in high-profile domestic disputes involving power, celebrity and governance. Others caution that such cases risk becoming spectacles unless handled with procedural fairness and institutional transparency.
Senator Nwoko has not yet issued a detailed response to the petition’s allegations. The petition’s organisers say they will hand over the document to anti-corruption agencies, the Senate ethics committee and civil-society organisations for follow-up.
