Anambra Election: Soludo Takes Early Lead as Independent National Electoral Commission Uploads 99 % of Results

In the race for the governorship of Anambra State, Charles Soludo—the incumbent and candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA)—is reported to hold a commanding early lead, following the submission of approximately 99 % of polling‐unit results by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Results Upload & Lead Status

INEC’s Results Viewing portal (IReV) shows that nearly all results have been uploaded—giving an early snapshot of the election’s likely outcome. The full tally of results from across the state was nearing completion, enabling observers and political parties to gauge trends rather than proclaim final victory.

What It Suggests

Soludo’s lead at this stage suggests that he has secured significant support across key local government areas, giving him a strategic advantage. The volume of results uploaded also indicates the electoral process, at least in terms of transmission, has progressed smoothly—despite isolated reports of disruptions elsewhere. Analysts caution, however, that early leads are not guarantees of final outcome until all results are verified and any challenges are resolved.

Critical Considerations

  • The high upload percentage may reflect efficient logistical coordination by INEC, but it may also raise questions about transparency and verification of data–entry across polling units.

  • Opposition parties may still insist on waiting for full verification, including physical result sheets, before accepting the outcome.

  • With nearly 100 % of results posted, the contest may shift from vote‐counting to post-counting issues: petitions, result integrity, and formal declaration of winner.

Next Steps

Once INEC formally collates and certifies the results, monitoring bodies and stakeholders will assess the credibility of the vote. Meanwhile, all eyes will be on whether Soludo’s early lead is sustained to final certification—or whether unforeseen developments (e.g., legal contests, recounts) emerge.

Dalena Reporters Analysis:
An election with nearly the full dataset uploaded offers both clarity and risk. Clarity, because stakeholders can evaluate trends in near-real time; risk, because if the remaining percentage includes areas with divergent votes, the outcome might change or be challenged. Soludo’s early dominance is a strong signal—but the integrity of the remaining process, including result authentication and potential legal scrutiny, will determine whether this lead converts into a politically sustainable victory.
