Nationwide Protest Planned to Demand Release of Nnamdi Kanu

Abuja, Nigeria – October 2025

A nationwide protest has been announced in Nigeria to demand the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

The protest is scheduled to take place on October 20, 2025, in Abuja and other major cities. Supporters of the movement say the protest will be peaceful and will continue until the Federal Government complies with court orders granting Kanu freedom.

Activist Omoyele Sowore is leading the mobilisation for the protest, calling it a stand for justice and constitutional rights. He said Kanu’s prolonged detention by the Department of State Services (DSS) is unlawful.

Human rights groups and civic organisations have declared support for the protest and asked security agencies not to disrupt the demonstration.

The Federal Government has not yet issued an official response to the protest announcement.
