Trump to Impose $100,000 Fee on Skilled Foreign Worker Visas

September 19, 2025 – President Donald Trump is set to introduce a $100,000 application fee for H-1B visas, which are designated for highly skilled foreign workers. A White House official confirmed that the President plans to sign a proclamation today implementing this new fee structure.

The H-1B visa program has been a cornerstone for U.S. technology and staffing companies seeking to fill specialized roles with foreign talent. However, the program has faced criticism for allegedly enabling companies to hire foreign workers at lower wages, potentially displacing qualified American workers. In the previous year, India accounted for 71% of approved H-1B visa applications, with China following at 11.7%.

The introduction of this substantial application fee is part of a broader immigration crackdown by the Trump administration, aiming to reduce foreign worker influx and prioritize American employment opportunities.
