During a television interview, the president said that the Tennessee city is “deeply troubled.” The move follows similar use of the Guard in D.C.
President Donald Trump announced Friday that Memphis will be the next target of a National Guard deployment to fight crime, calling it a “deeply troubled” city.
“We’re going to Memphis,” Trump said during a Fox News interview. “National Guard and anybody else we need. And by the way, we’ll bring in the military too, if we need it.”
Trump has spent recent weeks considering where to deploy the National Guard next after sending troops to Washington, D.C., last month. He has most commonly floated Chicago, though Democratic officials there have voiced strong opposition.
