A devastating road accident early Wednesday left two people dead and nine others injured after 11 vehicles collided on the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed.

The crash occurred at approximately 11:45 a.m. within the New Garki stretch of the expressway and involved four trucks, two trailers, a tipper, a Hiace bus, a minibus, a Sienna, and a jeep — a total of 11 vehicles.

According to the FRSC’s Enugu sector commander, Franklin Agbakoba, the injured — all males — were rushed to the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Enugu and the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), Ozalla, while security and rescue teams — including police and military personnel — responded within 10 minutes.

The FRSC attributed preliminary causes of the crash to speed violations, route infractions, and loss of control. Authorities have cleared the wreckage from the roadway, but investigations into the exact sequence of events are ongoing.
