Nigeria’s Federal University Lokoja Mourns Death Of 200-Level Biotechnology Student From Snake Bite

In a tragic incident that has cast a pall over the Federal University Lokoja (FUL) community in Kogi State, a 200-level biotechnology student identified as Favour has died after being bitten by a snake on Thursday night in the Itakeate Isao area, prompting shock, grief and calls for improved campus safety measures among students, staff and stakeholders.

According to a statement released by the Students’ Union Government (SUG) Public Relations Officer, Comrade Baye, the heartbreaking development occurred suddenly, triggering immediate efforts to save the young student’s life. Favour was promptly rushed to Isanlu General Hospital where medical personnel undertook urgent treatment, but she succumbed to her injuries and passed away despite all interventions a loss that has deeply affected peers and lecturers alike.

“We sadly announce the passing of Favour, a 200-level student of Biotechnology,” the SUG statement said, reflecting the profound sadness gripping the campus. Fellow students and lecturers have described the incident as “painful and devastating,” emphasising the suddenness and emotional toll of the fatal snake bite.
