Armed assailants invaded the quiet agrarian village of Igbo-Ofe-Ora in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State around 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, abducting a housewife identified only as Rukayat and shooting her brother-in-law, an attack that has thrown the community into fear and anxiety.

According to family sources, the gunmen barged into the village, opened fire to sow terror and whisked the woman away before anyone could intervene. The relative who was shot was rushed to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital — and later moved to a private facility when the state hospital staff were reportedly on strike.

The kidnappers have since contacted the victim’s family, demanding a ransom of ₦100 million for her release, plunging loved ones into uncertainty as they scramble for a way to meet the demand.

Local sources described the incident as part of a continuing wave of terror sweeping across rural communities in Kwara State, where ungoverned zones and poor security coverage appear to have emboldened such brazen attacks.

As of press time, security agencies had not issued any public statement on the latest abduction. But residents say the growing frequency of such raids is eroding trust in protection promises and increasing pressure on state authorities to deliver effective security responses.
