Akure, Ondo State – The Department of State Services (DSS) has issued a security alert warning of imminent coordinated attacks by ISWAP on several communities in Ondo and Kogi states. A confidential memo dated October 20, 2025, addressed to the Brigade Commander of the 32 Artillery Brigade at Owena Cantonment, Akure, cautions that the militants have begun surveillance of “soft targets” and are preparing strikes.
The memo, signed by H.I. Kana, Director of Security, DSS Ondo State Command, lists Eriti Akoko and Oyin Akoko in Akoko North-West Local Government Area, and Owo town in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State among the targeted locations. It also warns of planned activity in parts of Kogi State.
In response, security agencies in Ondo State convened an emergency high-powered meeting to strengthen collaboration with community stakeholders. The meeting, led by Commissioner of Police Adebowale Lawal, included traditional rulers, farmer associations, vigilante groups, and local community representatives.
The Ondo State Government, in a separate statement, acknowledged the leaked memo but described it as part of routine intelligence-sharing among security agencies. The government assured residents that preventive measures are underway and urged calm and vigilance.
Residents in the identified border communities have been advised to remain alert, report suspicious activities to security officials, and avoid self-mobilisation without professional guidance.
